Biomass Pyramids
Ecologist construct a diagram called the Pyramid Of Biomass to show the total mass of organisms at each stage of the food chain. The area of each section represents the mass of organisms at each stage. Pyramids of biomass are very useful because they allow ecologists to understand the total productivity of an area. Productivity meaning can be used to help compare different ecosystems and useful in farming, fisheries and wildlife conservation.
Biodiversity
Biodiversity indicates the range of different species living in a community. High biodiversity means there is a large amount of species in an ecosystem. An ecosystem with a large amount of species is less likely to be affected by environmental changes.
