Floods appear when water temporarily covers land which is not normally covered by water. Heavy rains may result in rivers overflowing their banks and widespread flooding in some areas. Floods also greatly affect natural ecosystems and there were high death rates among native organisms. Plants drown from lack of oxygen at the roots. Animals can drown or die from disclosure. Organisms in such places adapt rapidly to reproduce and take advantage of any extra food and favourable living conditions.
